A Minor Miscommunication

So, do you ever have one of those days that you say something not really thinking about it and realize later that you had made a big mistake? Just such a thing happened to me yesterday.

Justin was home and he had found Jill's mp3 player. I told him to put it away. As any 5 year old would say he wanted to know why. I was tired and busy and said, "Justin, just do it, please!"

"Why, Mom?"

"Because, it's not yours. " As Justin leaves to put it away I mutter, "And she will throw a hissy if she finds out you were playing with it."

So Justin turns around and says, "Mom, what's a hissy?" Oh, no! He heard me!

So I try to explain. "A hissy is a fit. I don't think Jill wants you to play with that and if she was here she might get upset."

This seemed to satisfy him. I think I've dodged a bullet until later I hear Justin walking around the house saying, "Jill is being hussy." What?!? Then I realized he means 'hissy'.

I quickly correct him and hope that he never repeats it again. So far so good.

That's so funny; kids can confuse parents' good intentions so easily.
