Laundry

AHHHH!! Laundry! What is there to say about laundry?

Most household tasks I don't really mind too much. But laundry is my least favorite. I've come to understand why I hate it so much. It is the only thing that I can never really say is DONE! If you do dishes at night...they are done until the morning. I can vacuum and and be done. I can clean bedrooms and they will we done. I can dust and it will be done. Laundry, however, can never be done. I can work all day to get it done and the minute the kids walk in the door, they are taking off wet socks or jeans. Sometimes I can go all the way to bedtime and then the kids all shower. Even if I get all the clothes done, I know that there are sheets and towels that should be washed. Laundry haunts me.

I also know that after I do the laundry I should iron. My next least favorite thing. So I don't iron until I actually want to wear the item of clothing.

But as much as I hate laundry it is never a dull experience. I never know what I might find while doing laundry. I'll tell you what I mean.

My kids love to stuff in their pockets, but they always forget to take it out. So as I do laundry I find the most amazing things. I find their rock collections, matchbox cars, lip gloss, coins, crayons, pens, pencils, action figures, polly pockets, candy wrappers, gum and notes from school just to mention a few. I even quite often find a handful of those those little plastics that you take off of the milk carton at school because my niece told Jacob that she collects them. So everyday at lunch he collects them from all his friends and keeps them for her. (I'm not kidding when I say I wash at least 30 at a time!)

Anyway, I keep a pile on my dryer of things I collect from the laundry. Eventually the kids will claim them, stuff them in their pockets and I will wash them again the next time I do laundry. Really the system works out rather well.

Just a side note. Most of these these things can be washed and will recover quite well. However, I have learned the hard way that if Jared does not empty his pockets before the laundry is collected..
keys are ok to wash...wallets are not the best thing to wash, but do survive once you lay everything that was in it out to dry...cell phones do not wash well and such scenario should be avoided at all costs. (Unless of course you are looking for an excuse to buy a new one.)

For those of you thinking it, yes, I probably need a night out since I'm blogging about laundry.

Jared, take your wife out, she blessed you with a BLATANT HINT. Don't miss it when its spelled out so well.

Janice, I recommend you get a wife. They are WONDERFUL as they take care of so much despite being under-appreciated daily. I know my wife certainly is priceless, yet under-appreciated.

Laundry makes me so crazy too! I'd love to say..ah it is all done! Never happens! It also makes me crazy when clean laundry ends up in the laundry basket!

Oh, I can't believe that I forgot to mention the clean clothes in the laundry headache. No matter how they try to tell me that they didn't know it was clean..... I just can't believe them when it is either still folded or still on a hanger!!!

Such is life, eh?! I've blogged about laundry at least twice I think... does that mean I need two nights out? I've given up on ironing - didn't even bring one with me to the island. The minute you put something on it's wrinkled anyway. I try to stay away from fabric that's really bad so that it's not such a big deal. Good luck.

I hear ya! Thanks though, because you reminded me that I need to wash our sheets today. I meant to do it on Saturday but spaced it. If Jared has one of those "neat" coin pouches from Australia - I've found that despite being leather, they don't wash up so well either. Don't know if Mike's been able to stretch that one back to full coin capacity or not yet! :)
