Here it is July, and it has been so hot here I thought I would think back to a time when it was a bit cooler.
This winter was a cold one. We had snow for months on end. It was just so cold that it never melted off until well into spring. We also had a couple of ice storms.
I remember as a kid having icicles all over the edge of the house. We used to love watching them grow to see how long they would get. I never understood why my parents would go out and knock them down.
Well, now I can understand why. You see ice is rather heavy. If icicles get too big they can cause damage to your house. We found this out the hard way this winter.
We have never really had icicles on our house before so it never occurred to us that we would have a problem. It was also very cold so the kids didn't really play outside. So when we finally discovered our icicle it had already gotten pretty big.

I knew it had to be knocked down, but Jared was out of town and I was afraid I would do more damage by trying. I decided to wait until Jared got home.
Well, we never got the chance. The icicle got big enough and heavy enough that it fell on it's own. It broke into a tons of pieces.
Here is the biggest piece. This was just 2 days after the above picture was taken.

We still need to fix the drain pipe. Hopefully, before fall we will get it done.
