Garden #1

Last year Jared and I felt impressed that we should have a garden. This is a daunting task for two people who know nothing about gardening. We were also worried about a garden taking up way too much of our back yard. Last spring there was a class at the church about square foot gardening. We went to it and learned that square foot gardens are a way to grow more in less space. They are also really easy especially for beginners. It sounded perfect for us.

We've done a lot of reading, learning and planning. This year we decided to put the plan into action.

We first had to clear out the grass from the area where we wanted to put the garden. This started out as Jared digging with a shovel and the kids carrying the dirt to the trailer. After a couple of hours and only about a 1/4 of the area cleared, we decided it would be worth spending the money to rent a sod cutter to get the rest out. 45 minutes later the grass was cleared.

The kids thoroughly enjoyed getting muddy and dirty. I mean how often can they get dirty and it is ok with mom?

I'm excited to see how your harvest turns out and what your thoughts/feelings are doing it this way. We really should do this too!

Good luck on your garden! They are a lot of work- but so much fun, too!

Right on. I love that you are doing a garden. I hope that everything grows good. I don't have much of a green thumb.
